Browse Subjects

Browse Subjects allows you to view several lists of subject terms that have been indexed in the database. By default, this screen displays all subject terms included in the database, and how many items are associated with each term. Note that some of the terms are expandable (i.e., have sub-terms nested underneath them). Click on an expandable term to view a list of all related sub-terms. Click on the results link to view a list of documents and chapters/sections that have been indexed for that term. To browse by historical themes, events, persons, places, or other topics, simply click the subject type listed in the gray bar above the default all-subjects list. Lastly, you can use the Find Term field to perform a keyword search for a particular subject term. If you know what subject you're looking for, entering your term into the Find Term field allows you to locate the subject quickly without having to scroll through an entire list of subjects. The Find Term feature will also search sub-terms that are nested beneath the higher-order expandable terms.

Navigating

You can sort your results by any column by clicking on that tab heading. There is an A-Z list at the top of the table that allows you to sort your results by a particular letter. If, for example, you only want to see works by publishers beginning with the letter D, click on the General Subjects tab and then on the letter D on the alpha wheel. If a letter is not hyperlinked there are no results in the database beginning with that letter. The All option shows all documents in the database.
