Image Viewer

Viewing options: Images and Text

There are four basic view settings in the image viewer:

Gallery view: Allows you to view all of the pages in a document at one time. Double clicking on any of the thumbnails will pull up that page in the sidebar view.

Sidebar view: Allows you to view one page in detail, while providing thumbnail images of the other pages in the document in the sidebar on the left. You can zoom in and rotate the main image using the controls directly above the main image.

Full view: Shows one page at a time in a large window, without thumbnails on the left. You can zoom in and rotate using the controls directly above the image.

Text view: Toggles to the full text of the document. You can click on Gallery, Sidebar, or Full view to return to the images.

Rotating and Zooming

When using the sidebar view or full view, you can use the Zoom and Rotate controls above the central image to adjust your viewing experience. These adjustments will be maintained for as long as you view that particular object in the image viewer: you do not need to adjust every page.

TIP: When viewing on a laptop or adjustable monitor, the zoom and horizontal rotation features can be used to more closely replicate the experience of reading a printed comic book.

Viewing Metadata

Whenever you are viewing contents in the image viewer, you can see the metadata for that work by clicking on ‘show additional details’ underneath the title listing. As you navigate through a work, this metadata will change to reflect what is being viewed in the image viewer.

Navigating in the Image Viewer

There are several ways to navigate in the image viewer.

Next/Previous Page Controls: Use these to move through the pages as you would a printed book. These controls will indicate when you are changing documents within a work by alerting you that the next page is in the next item.

Table of Contents Pull Down: This box shows all of the documents within a work. You can select a title to jump directly to that document in the viewer.

Next/Previous Item Controls: Use these to skip between documents in the work you are viewing. Similar to the pull down.

“Jump to” Page Number: Use these to jump forward or backward within a document by page number.

Admin Alert: Our Platforms Are Now Updated with HTTPS

This past summer, Alexander Street began supporting HTTPS on its platforms (in addition to HTTP) to strengthen security and privacy of your information.

On January 2, 2018, all Alexander Street platforms will permanently transition from HTTP to HTTPS. Existing HTTP links will redirect to HTTPS when the transition occurs. Organizations that use proxies to access Alexander Street platforms will need to update links and certificates to support HTTPS.

This support article shows how to complete changes in proxy servers and provides answers to common questions. Even if you don't use proxies, you'll want to review and convert links to their HTTPS versions. (Note: Access to your Alexander Street content has not been impacted even if you haven't yet made the switch.)

Links will redirect from HTTP to HTTPS for some time to come, but we encourage you to do this important work today if you haven't already.
